On February 13, Sound Sense Deaf Empowerment Initiative took a significant step forward in advancing inclusive youth development by organizing a Leadership & Life Skills Training at Government Secondary School, Kuje.

This impactful session was specially designed to empower Deaf students — who formed the majority of participants — while also engaging some hearing students to promote inclusion, understanding, and collaboration. Our goal was simple yet powerful: to equip young people with the confidence, character, and practical skills needed to become responsible and effective leaders in their communities.
Creating an Inclusive Learning Environment
The training provided a safe and engaging space where Deaf and hearing students learned side by side. Through interactive discussions, group activities, and practical exercises, participants explored key leadership themes such as:
- Self-confidence and self-awareness
- Responsible decision-making
- Communication and teamwork
- Integrity and accountability
- Goal setting and personal growth
By fostering inclusion, we reinforced a vital message — leadership has no barriers, and every young person deserves the opportunity to thrive.
Building Confidence Beyond the Classroom
The energy in the room was inspiring. Students actively participated, shared their ideas, and demonstrated a strong willingness to grow. For many of the Deaf participants, the training represented more than just a session — it was a reminder that their voices matter, their potential is limitless, and their leadership journey is valid.

This training marked Activity 2 of our ongoing project, and it stands as another milestone in our commitment to empowering young people, particularly within the Deaf community.
